The re-engined A330 that gave a classic widebody a new lease of life. Quieter, cleaner, and 14% more fuel efficient than the aircraft it updates.
✈ Scan Your Sky NowThe Airbus A330-900neo is the larger of two A330neo variants, re-engined with Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines derived from the Trent XWB that powers the A350. It entered service with TAP Air Portugal in 2018 and has attracted orders from airlines seeking a more efficient widebody without the price tag of an A350 or 787.
The neo update brought new sharklet wingtips, a refreshed cabin interior (the Airspace cabin from the A350), and the Trent 7000 engines which deliver significant improvements in fuel burn and noise. For passengers, the A330neo feels noticeably different from the older A330 — quieter, with better cabin humidity and larger overhead bins.
The A330-900neo looks very similar to the classic A330-300 from a distance, but has two key visual differences. The winglets are larger and more prominent — the sharklets sweep upward in a smooth curve rather than the modest wingtip fences on older A330s. The engines are also visibly different — the Trent 7000 has a larger fan diameter and a more modern nacelle shape.
The fuselage is the same width as the classic A330 so the aircraft looks familiar in the air. On approach, the quieter Trent 7000 engines make it noticeably less audible than the older CFM56 or PW4000-powered variants.
