✈ Scan Your Sky NowThe Airbus A321neo is the largest and longest-range member of the A320neo family. While it looks like a stretched A320 — and in many ways it is — the latest XLR variant (Extra Long Range) can fly transatlantic routes non-stop, something previously requiring a much larger widebody aircraft.
Airlines love the A321neo because it fills the gap between a 737 or A320 and a widebody like a 787. On routes with 180-220 passengers it's more economical than operating a larger aircraft with empty seats. American Airlines has the largest A321neo order with over 400 aircraft, and it's rapidly becoming the backbone of US domestic and transatlantic aviation.
The A321neo is visibly longer than an A320 — the fuselage is stretched by about 7 metres (23 feet). In the air this makes the aircraft look more elongated and sleek. The same large sharklet wingtips as the A320neo are present. The engines are the same choice as the A320neo — CFM LEAP or Pratt & Whitney GTF.
On approach, the A321's length is most apparent. The nose-to-tail ratio looks different from an A320 — the tail appears further away from the wing. From below, the undercarriage is the same as a standard A320 family member but the fuselage stretch makes the landing gear appear slightly further back.
